We just celebrated Mother’s Day, and it has me thinking a lot about my role in shaping my children’s lives. At the age of 10, my daughter has a lot personality all her own. She also has some insecurities that are already apparent. Here are 13 things I hope she learns from me.
- Love yourself. First and foremost, love who you are, and treasure it.
- Be brave. The more something scares you, the more likely it is that it’s something you should definitely do.
- Chase your dreams. They won’t fall in to your lap on their own, but they are worth chasing.
- Believe in yourself. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind too.
- Don’t let money be the reason you don’t do something. If it’s important enough, you’ll find a way.
- Take care of your health. Allow yourself to rest and recharge when you need it. The little things can wait.
- Know that you are beautiful, no matter what you look like. The most beautiful things about you come from within anyway.
- Be independent, but also know it’s okay to lean on the people you love when you need too.
- Don’t settle, ever. You deserve better than that. Everyone does.
- Know that walking away from something with good reason isn’t failure; it’s pragmatic.
- Embrace change. It will happen anyway, but if you look forward to it rather than dread it, it won’t be as hard.
- Find what your passionate about, and don’t let it go.
- Love completely. Sometimes you’ll get hurt, but it’s worth it.
